The Art of Handbuilding with Clay
Instructor: Sarah McGuigan
Wednesdays, 5:45pm-7:45pm, November 4, 11, 18, December 2, 9, & 16
New and continuing students will having fun learning essential techniques, including slab building, pinch construction, and coil methods. Understanding these techniques allow you to create a wide variety of handmade pottery without using a pottery wheel.
Students will learn to design, shape, refine, and assemble clay pieces while exploring surface textures and decorative techniques. Projects may include bowls, mugs, luminaries, vases, sculptures, trays and small dishes, tiles, wall hangings, or other beautiful, functional and/or decorative pieces designed to build knowledge and confidence with the process, tools, materials and structure of clay.
During the final portion of the course, students will prepare their work for firing and glaze their pieces.
Small class size of 10 to insure instruction focused on you
Open to ages 12+
We offer sitting and standing workspace options for your comfort.
Completion of two sessions of this class prepares students for Membership.
Details
Clay: Can be purchased HERE and will be waiting for you on the 1st day of class.
What to bring: Comfortable clothing, a hair tie for long hair and a water bottle. During winter months, please bring inside shoes (crocs or tennis shoes are great) to change into.
What not to bring: Food, jewelry, clay or glaze. Shorter nails are best.
